About Pedigree
Pedigree is one of the oldest dog food brands still being sold today. The company was founded in 1934 in the UK by the American company Mars. Originally the brand was called “Chappie” and sold only in the UK. Several more name changes included the food being called “Lassie” (after the film star dog) and Pal In 1972 the name was changed once again to Pedigree Pet Foods and Pedigree dog food products are now sold in countries all over the world.
About Pedigree Dog Foods
There are many different kinds of Pedigree dog food, both wet and dry, but Pedigree say that all their foods address the four basic health needs that any dog has. These needs are:
- A healthy coat and healthy skin – Pedigree add zinc and linoleic acid to their dry dog food products to help promote a healthier, shinier coat and prevent dry skin.
- Oral care – According to Pedigree 4 out of 5 dogs have gum disease. Pedigree have formulated a line of dry food and of treat bones that are designed to help treat and prevent gum disease in dogs.
- Digestion – It may seem like dogs will eat anything but they really shouldn’t. Pedigree wet foods are designed to digest easily and completely and contain probiotics for a healthier digestive system.
- Immunity – Dogs get sick too so Pedigree add extra antioxidants to help boost their immune system.
Pedigree Education
The official Pedigree website is probably one of the best places that dog owners (or even would be dog owners) can head to get all kinds of information about choosing and caring for a dog. Their are hundreds of articles, videos and tools that dog owners will find very helpful including a dog age calculator and a “breed finder” that helps people who are considering getting a new dog decide what breed might be right for both their family and the kind of home they live in. there are also links to local shelters so that people can help find homeless dogs a new “forever” place to live or simply make a donation to help care for them until they do.
